Traces of the Other

Los Angeles · June 13, 2026

Donald Hoffman & Andrew Gallimore · Moderated by Charles Yokoyama · The Lighthouse Campus, Los Angeles
The event

On June 13, Donald Hoffman and Andrew Gallimore came together at The Lighthouse Campus in Los Angeles to present Traces of the Other: an attempt to build the first rigorous, empirically testable mathematical framework for one of the most extraordinary questions in consciousness research.

It marked the first collaboration to emerge from the Trace Institute Collaboration Program.

Could DMT temporarily transform the human perceptual interface, making conscious agents that are normally invisible to us perceivable?

Moderated by Charles Yokoyama, Trace researcher and former Senior Scientific Editor of Neuron, the conversation brought mathematics, neuroscience, and experiment into the same room.

For those who could not be in the room, the full conversation is now available above.
